This is the premium Fairview Cellars blend.
With over 50% of the blend comprised of Cabernet
Sauvignon sourced from the oldest
vines on the estate. Blended with a smaller portion of Merlot and
Cabernet Franc. An extended maceration during fermentation and
extended time in barrels have added
to the fullness and complexity of this wine.
2006 "Madcap Red" $29.90, 400
cases produced
A few cases still available
A noted wine writer referred
to Bill Eggert at the Madcap winemaker, so Bill, trying to remove some
of the confusion between his Cab/Merlot and Merlot/Cab, decided
to rename the Merlot/Cab "Madcap Red". A predominantly Merlot
Blend with about 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The ripe tannins in this wine have softened enough to allow enjoyment
immediately, but the wine will certainly benifit from aging.
2006 Cabernet
Sauvignon $34.90, 300 cases produced
For the fans of Fairview
Cabs, this is right up your alley. Again the tannins in this wine
are ripe, but at the moment forward. The fruit can be detected
behind the tannins, but it will take a few years to bring them up
front. A big wine that should be laid down for at least 2 years.

Cabernet/Syrah $34.90, 70 cases Produced
SOLD OUT
With only one row of Syrah
only one barrel is produced each year. This provides a
dilema. Make 24 cases and keep it all myself, or blend some
Cabernet Sauvignon to bring up the final volume and share with
people. Again this year I have chosen the blend. Two
barrels of Cabernet were used. As a result the wine has a
destinctive Cabernet nose and pallet, but the Syrah comes out in the
background and on the finish making for a rather interesting wine.
